well - today is the very last day of 2008. what a difference a year makes, huh? time for some self reflection. kev and i started this year fat, unhappy and in some serious debt. now, we're skinnier, healthier, happier and less debted and pregnant! whew. we did some serious work this year. go us. team mck-kev. :)
anyway - our plans for tonight are to lounge. we're going to albertsons and getting some super bowl food - you know, cream cheese poppers, mini weenies, chips and dip (all super healthy for baby)... and we're going to veg out. i'm excited to just be us. and - i'm not going to lie. the probability of us ending up in my bathroom, him on the toliet (seat down of course), me in the tub sipping sparkling apple juice sounds lovely. we'll probably end up there about, ummm... 8:30-ish? eat your heart out ed mcmahon - i'm not going to make it to the ball dropping. i need my baby beauty rest. dang. :)
i hope this year brought you as much happiness as it did kev and i. we've never been stronger together. i feel so unbelievably blessed to have such an awesome hub-band. he's so good to me and i just love him. we're the A team - the varsity team and i think that this year we realized that. together we are so strong. (wow... i didn't plan for this to be a sappy as it's turned out).
either way. goodbye 2008 - hellllloooooooo 2009! can't wait to see what you'll bring (especially by way of baby in june). wowza! :)
have fun tonight! and drink a mother-loving martini for me k?

zerberts and baby crack...
what's a zerbert you ask? oh lord... i recently learned it's a kevin-style raspberry. you know, the pull up your shirt and blow to make the fart sound? super.
so i felt flutters yesterday! YAY! the baby is in there... and moving and i felt it... for a second. i actually didn't realize that's what it was until it was over. it was like bubbles in my belly... moving up and then around. it was almost like i needed to fart... and then no... no fart. then the "ahh-ha" moment - it was the babes! :)
so i came home and told the kev-ster i felt the baby. he was obviously very excited. we talked about it for awhile, you know... the usual stuff. how excited we were that the baby was really in there and how it was becoming real now that i felt it... and i thought we moved on. then it happened. kevin felt the need to reach over, lift up my shirt, press his lips to my belly and say "heyyyyyy baby..." and then blew a zerbert. this all happened in a matter of... ummm... 5 seconds? i felt the baby really move then. i'm not talking about flutters... i mean the baby was trying to escape his insane daddy. i told kevin he was going to make our sweet babe stroke out before it can even function on it's own. i was dying. it was so funny... and completely unexpected... i was all relaxed and stuff. sheesha kev. :) gotta love my baby daddy.
on another note - i thought i'd share my latest baby crack. i ordered my furniture and here's what it looks like:

my adorable (and affordable crib). i love the little swishes in the back. can't wait to set this sucka' up! and here is my changer/dresser combo:

it's going to look so great. i can't wait to get it all set up. i got it in the dark coffee wood. i loves it!
as soon as we have our big ultrasound we'll paint and set it all up. i love nesting! it's just fan-freakin-tastic.

my first bit of crazy...
poor, poor kevin.
i had my first bit of pregnancy crazy. kev and i were laying in bed talking about life when this forensic files came on the tv and started talking about how statistics show that men die before women.
this is common sense, yes? well - we always do this cheesy, really kind of morbid thing (but i love it...) where we say, "i hope i die first." and then the other person says, "nooo! i hope IIIIII die first." it's weird, i know... but the basic principle is we don't want to live without each other.
mmk. stage set. so this forensic files comes on and starts talking about how the man dies first. well... i lose it. i start crying. hysterically. because the tv says that kevin will most likely die before me. at some point i realized how ridiculous i am being and i start laughing... also hysterically. then i realized kevin was looking at me... blankly. between my tears and laughs i looked at him and said, "i'm out of control!" he answered, "umm... i know."
haha... pregnancy is a beautiful thing.

tis why i love montana...
so i ordered my crib. yayyy! i got a killer deal on black friday and i bit the bullet and ordered it up. i'm in absolute love. it's going to look fan-freakin-tastic in my nursery.
i ordered it from jcpenney and it was on back-order so it was supposed to take 8-10 weeks. no problem since in 8-10 weeks i'll be justr over half way through my pregnancy. (ok... i know, i ordered a little early. but i'm a bargain shopper).
anyway - penney's called on friday to let us know it's in. wellll... ummm... the nursery is kevin's computer room and is still officially a disaster area. in every sense of the word. and - i was going to ask my awesome brother-in-law if he'd pick it up with his truck but i just haven't gotten around to it.
so i call penneys tonight and tell them that although i'm very grateful it's in - i wasn't expecting it for awhile and since it's -19 below and almost christmas could they pretty please hold it until after the holidays?
then the customer service lady asked me where i lived. strange, but ok... i'll tell you. and i did. turns out she lives in the condo building next to mine (same street, same subdivision) and offers to deliver it after work tomorrow night. you've got to be kidding me! i told her that sure was a lot to ask... but she insisted and said she'd rather get it the crap out of her warehouse so she didn't have to work around it until after the holidays.
awesome. you just don't find people that will do stuff like that anymore. i love montana. :) i, apparently, have awesome neighbors! whooo hoooooo! :)

damn you costco. damn you to HELL.
dear costco,
let me begin by saying i love your produce. i absolutely love it. i don't know how my husband and i could live without it. and i mean that from the bottom of my heart. not only do you have a large selection of beautiful looking fruits and veggies but they are fair priced and come in bulk - so i have a lot of whatever i buy. genius.
now, that said... i purchased some of my most very favorite fruit from you this weekend. yummy raspberries. six containers - one low price. i was surprised to see them as i thought since it's mid-december they would be wayyyy out of season... but nonetheless i purchased them and couldn't WAIT to get them home and munch them.
well today, costco, i brought one of the six containers from home to work for my mid-morning snack. i couldn't wait. i love raspberries. i opened the container, took them to the sink and washed them very well (thank GOD for that...). then i set them on my desk and grazed on them. that's when it happened costco. i had eaten HALF THE DAMN CONTAINER when a creature crawled out. a mother-loving SNAIL crawled out of my raspberry container. WHAT THE HELL?!
just when things were starting to look up in my pregnancy you pull THIS CRAP?! i hadn't puked in almost a week... then this mother-frigging snail crawls out and i puked all over my DESK... at WORK. seriously...
sincerely,
mckenzie
ps - i HATE you.

i just can't kick the habit...
i woke up last night around 4:30 am after what i'd call a nightmare. you see friends, i've gained 8 lbs already. now let me just say, for those of you who know me well, i'm not upset that i'm gaining weight. not at all - i know that i have a baby in my belly - i am growing our baby. weight is not an issue. that said; all the books i've read say i should be gaining 2-5 lbs in the first trimester. not 8lbs.
well... i know why this is happening to me. after my mega weight loss (72 lbs off since june 2007! whooo hooo!) i swore off processed carbs and junk food. then i got knocked up and then morning sickness reared it's ugly head. the only thing the belly doesn't throw back up is crap food. and therefore... i've been giving it what it wants. this consists of a lot of top ramen, mac and cheese and 100,000 bean burritos. i've been feeling especially guilty about this just recently as i've watched the scale go up 8lbs in my first tri... ugh.
ok - back to my nightmare. i dreamt that i was in labor. i mean hard labor. what seemed (in this dream) for HOURS i finally gave birth to the baby. as soon as the baby was completely out and in the doctors arms - he looked at me and said, "ummm, mckenzie... you must have eaten a lot of bean burritos. i warned you about this." and the nurse handed the baby to kevin who looked at me and said, "damn! i told you not to eat so many of those damn things!" then i got a glance at my precious babe. my sweet precious babe was a two year old size hispanic baby.
the funniest part about this was no one - our doctor included - ever mentioned the fact that kevin and i conceiving a hispanic baby is IMPOSSIBLE. everyone just attributed the baby's RACE to my bean burrito intake.
ok - so i get it. for the love... i'm going to really put some effort into stopping, ok no... slowing my burrito intake down.
he is cute tho, right? :)

It's official...
Well, we did it. We're officially knocked up. Whoo hooo!
It's all still very, very surreal. I can't really comprehend that I have a baby inside of me. Someone who eventually (God willing) will grow into a life-size person inside of my womb. A real baby in my belly. Wow.
I always think it's funny when people ask me, "were you trying?" Well... the answer is - technically - I guess so. I mean, we weren't preventing. I went off my birth control in July (as my bankrupt attempt at a gift for my dear husband) and was pregnant by September. I honestly thought it would take... I dunno... 6 months? A year-ish? Apparently that just wasn't God's plan. Ok. Who am I to disagree with the Man? :)
And so, here we are. As of today I am 13 weeks, 5 days. And, by that calculation I will have a sweet little babe of my own in 184 days. Reality check!
Kevin and I are absolutely ecstatic. One of the first things Kevin said to me when I told him I was pregnant was, "I know people get pregnant all the time, but I can't help but feel like we won the lottery or something." How stinkin' sweet is he? I am so blessed to have a husband as wonderful as Kevin. He will be an amazing father someday. I can't wait to see it.
As for me... I have good days and bad. I'm optimistic that now that I am through my first trimester I will not be as sick as I have been. I know it could be much, much worse... but I do not like waking up, only to throw up and then carry on as if it never happened. For the last 25 years - if I puke in the morning (or at anytime in the day for that matter) I am sick and therefore headed back to bed for the day. Well, friends, this is no longer the case when you are knocked up. You must pretend as though it never happened and carry on. Blah.
There... vent over. It's all worth it.
Can you believe it? We're going to be someone's parents!
